YMCA Camp Chase: a place where outdoor adventure meets lifelong memories
OUR HISTORY
Originally established in 1962 as “Holiday Ridge Day Camp,” this little slice of nature offered a rustic experience that kept campers coming back for more.
Back then, the facilities were simple but cherished—a 12-foot-deep swimming pool, a single pavilion, basketball and tennis courts, an archery and BB gun range, and even an above-ground pool. Campers would often arrive by bus, just like today, but with a twist—counselors also took on the role of bus drivers, adding a quirky charm to the daily routine.
The camp’s biggest transformation happened in the early 1990s, thanks to the generosity of the Chase family. Their pivotal support allowed the YMCA of Greater Hartford to purchase the property from the New Britain YMCA, ushering in a new era and inspiring the camp’s current name, YMCA Camp Chase. The name honors the Chase family’s incredible contribution and cements their legacy in shaping Camp Chase into the beloved destination it is today.
Through the decades, Camp Chase has grown and changed, but one thing remains constant: its stunning natural setting and its mission to bring people closer to nature, family, and friends. From the very beginning, it has been a sanctuary where campers can step away from the hustle of everyday life and reconnect with the world around them. Whether it’s learning new skills, diving into recreational adventures, or simply enjoying the serene beauty of the outdoors, Camp Chase continues to be a place where memories are made, friendships blossom, and fun never goes out of style.
